macOS users can now hide privacy indicators (orange and green dots) on external graphics displays in macOS Sonoma 14.4 and later, ensuring a distraction-free presentation environment.
This requires macOS Sonoma, 14.4 or higher
1. Start Up from macOS Recovery:
- On Apple silicon, hold the power button until startup options appear.
- On Intel-based Macs, hold Command (⌘) + R during startup.
2. Open Terminal
- Within macOS Recovery, Select Utilities > Terminal from the menu.
3. Enter Command:
- Type and press Enter:
system-override suppress-sw-camera-indication-on-external-displays=on
- Type in your admin password
- Press Enter
- Verify you see "Successfully Unlocked the APFS Volume"
"APFS" may change based on your hard drive format
4. Restart the Mac
- From the Menu bar, choose the Apple Logo and Select "Restart"
5. Adjust Privacy Settings
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security>Camera.
- Turn off Privacy Indicators for Microphone or Camera access.
- Type in your admin password
