Navigating the Differences Between Bible Translations

ProPresenter has the ability to display multiple Bible translations at the same time. Unfortunately, sometimes with certain translations, the Bible verses may not line up. This is due to translation choices when the Bible was initially translated to other languages. Generally, most new Bibles build off of previous translations in that same language, rather than translating it from Hebrew and Greek, and only translating certain parts in their original language.

The most common area you will see this issue in ProPresenter is when looking at most of the modern English translations and most of the modern Russian translations. Specifically with the book of Psalms. In the original Hebrew, the first verse of each Psalm was an explanation of the author or of the instruments used in that Psalm. When the Bible was being translated into English this verse was often combined with the second verse of the Psalm. Whereas when the Bible was being translated to Russian this verse was kept as verse one. So if you were to compare verse 3 of a Psalm it would contain vastly different content between the two languages.

For an example, if you look at Psalm 3:3 from the American Standard Version and from the New Russian Translation. You will see they display different content.

When using the Bible feature inside of ProPresenter there is not a way to account for these differences while searching and generating Bible slides. Keeping in mind this only applies to certain verses when using a certain combination of certain Bibles. The advised way to account for these differences is to build your Bible slides prior to your event.
