How do I change the name of a Template and/or a Template Group?

Overview

Templates are one of the most powerful features in ProPresenter. From pre-formatting songs when you create them and re-formatting slides to match a theme to formatting Messages and Bibles, Templates have far-reaching applications with ProPresenter.

Because of this, keeping your Templates organized is important. Being able to quickly find the Template that you want to use will speed up your workflow quite a bit. This article will discuss  ways of updating the names of Templates and Template Groups to help with organization.

Template vs. Template Group

Technically speaking, a "Template" is a single slide's worth of data, while a "Template Group" is one or more Templates grouped together. For example, you might have a Template Group called "Sermon Notes", and within that Group you have Templates called "Master", "Bible Text", "Quotes", and "No Text". Having multiple Templates within a single Group makes it easy to organize multiple Templates together into one theme.

Changing the name of a Template

To change the name of an individual Template follow these steps:

1. Click the Template button on the top right of ProPresenter
2. Hover your mouse over your desired Template Group
3. Click Edit Template Group
4. On the left side of the Editor where is shows all of the individual Template slides, click on the Template you would like to change the name of
5. On the right side of the Editor click the Slide Properties tab (the second tab from the left)
6. In the Slide Label text box enter the desired name of the Template
7. Press Return on your keyboard.

You may need to click on the Template slide on the left again to see the name update, but you should see your new Template name show up at the bottom of the Template preview on the left side of the Editor.

Changing the name of a Template Group

Unlike changing the name of a Template, there is no direct way of changing the name of a Template Group within ProPresenter. Instead, you will need to create a new Template Group with your desired name, copy and paste over the Templates, then delete the old Group.

Follow these steps to change the name of a Template Group:

1. Click the Template button in the top right of ProPresenter
2. Hover your mouse over the Template Group that you want to rename
3. Click Edit Template Group
4. On the left side of the Editor where is shows all of the individual Template slides, click one of the Template slides
5. Select all of the Templates by clicking Edit > Select All
6. Copy all of the Templates by selecting Edit > Copy
7. Close out of the Template Editor by clicking the X above the Template slides on the left
8. Click the Template Button in the top right of ProPresenter
9. Click New Template Group
10. Name your new Template Group and click Save
11. On the left side of the Editor where is shows all of the individual Template slides, click on the blank slide
12. Press the Delete (or Backspace) key to delete the blank slide
13. Paste the Templates from the previous Group by selecting Edit > Paste
14. Close out of the Template Editor by clicking the X above the Template slides on the left
15. Click the Template button in the top right of ProPresenter
16. Hover your mouse over the old version of the Template Group
17. Click on Delete Template Group

The name of your Template Group should now be updated inside of ProPresenter.

Deleting a Template Group

If you have old Template Groups hanging around it can clutter up your workspace. Deleting old Template Groups will simplify your workflow by removing the clutter and helping you find your desired Template faster.

To delete a Template Group, click on the Template button on the top right of ProPresenter, hover your mouse over your desired Template Group, and click Delete Template Group.
