Overview
Upgrading from one version of ProPresenter to another version is made simple by the Import from Previous Version ability in ProPresenter, but what if you are trying to upgrade AND move computers at the same time? This adds a few steps for you, but it should be a quick and easy process.
Step 1
The first thing you want to do is update your data to the new ProPresenter form by installing the latest version of ProPresenter on your current computer. (Don't worry, if you don't have a registration for it, you can run it in the Demo mode.) Install the latest version of ProPresenter from our download page, then open it up and it should prompt you to import your data. If it doesn't prompt you, then you can go to File > Import > Import from Previous Version to manually import your data. You should now see your library from the previous version and can import it into the newer version.
Step 2
Now that you have your data in the new file format, you can migrate all of your information from the originating computer to the new computer. Install the latest version of ProPresenter on the new computer to make sure that the following steps will work correctly. Then follow the steps below.
On the originating computer:
- Create an empty folder on the desktop and name it "ProPresenter Sync" (or something similar).
- Open ProPresenter, open Preferences, click on the General Tab, and make sure that "Manage Media Automatically" is checked.
- Click on the Sync tab and make sure you are in the Local tab.
- Click the "+" near the top and select the new folder you just created on the desktop. Also check all four check boxes below that.
- Be sure to click "Sync files up to the repository". This will add all of your data to the folder. (Right now the "replace files on server" box is irrelevant because the folder is empty.)
- Click Sync. Note that this may take a minute or two depending on how much media you have.
- Now copy this folder to a thumb drive or a network drive.
On the new computer:
- Copy the folder from the thumb drive or the network drive to your desktop.
- Open ProPresenter, click on the Sync tab and make sure you are in the Local tab.
- Click the "+" near the top and select the folder you just copied to the desktop. Also check all four check boxes below that.
- Be sure to click "Sync files down from the repository". This will make sure that your data gets copied from the folder to your library.
- Click Sync. Note that this may take a minute or two depending on how much media you have.
That's it! Your two computers should be good to go.
