Recommended GPU Hardware Guidelines for Running ProPresenter

Windows Hardware Recommendations

GPU (Graphics Card) Requirements

ProPresenter relies heavily on your system's GPU for rendering all content outputs. Regardless of output method — whether it's a physical display, Blackmagic output, NDI feed, or other — all rendering happens on a single GPU. Adding a second graphics card will not boost performance in ProPresenter.

Recommended GPU Specifications

  • DirectX 10 or higher support is required.

  • Minimum of 1GB of VRAM per output screen (Example: 3 output screens = 3GB minimum VRAM).

  • Choose GPUs within or above these series:

    • NVIDIA GTX/RTX Series or newer.

    • AMD Radeon HD or RX Series or newer.

    • Whichever series you choose, make sure the specific card model is still receiving driver updates from the manufacturer. Older cards that have aged out of the manufacturer's driver support cycle are more likely to run into compatibility or performance issues with newer versions of ProPresenter.

Renewed Vision does not recommend specific card models but suggests staying within the NVIDIA GTX/RTX line (or newer) or AMD Radeon lines for best results.

Laptops with Switchable Graphics

Many laptops ship with both integrated graphics (Intel) and a discrete GPU (NVIDIA or AMD). On these machines:

  • Ensure that ProPresenter is configured to run using the discrete (high-performance) GPU.

  • This setting is typically managed in the graphics control panel software provided by your GPU manufacturer.

macOS Hardware Recommendations

Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) Compatibility

ProPresenter runs natively on any Apple Silicon-based Mac.

However, display output limitations vary by chip model — and are an essential consideration for production environments.

External Display Support by Apple Silicon Chip:

Apple Silicon ChipExternal Display SupportNotes
M1 / M2 / M3 (Base)1 external displayAdditional outputs require external video hardware (e.g., DisplayLink adapters, video processors).
M1 Pro / M2 Pro / M3 Pro / M4 Pro / M4 / M5 (base)Up to 2 external displaysVerify per model for exact limits.
M1 Max / M2 Max / M3 Max / M4 Max / M5 Pro / M5 Max3-4 external displaysHigh-performance models suitable for more complex screen setups.
M1 Ultra / M2 Ultra / M3 Ultra / M5 UltraUp to 5-8 external displaysBest suited for advanced multi-screen environments.

Important Notes for All Systems

  • ProPresenter renders all outputs on a single GPU — even if outputting via Blackmagic hardware, NDI, or additional output devices.

  • Upgrading to a single, higher-powered graphics card is more beneficial than adding multiple lower-powered cards.

  • Always plan GPU VRAM capacity based on your number of outputs.

  • Verify your specific device’s display limitations before purchasing hardware — especially on macOS.
