Using Advanced Text Fill Options in ProPresenter

Overview

ProPresenter allows you to do more than apply a simple color to your text. Advanced text fill options let you fill text with media, cut it out to reveal the background behind it, or blend it into the background for a polished, broadcast-quality look — all without leaving ProPresenter.

Accessing Text Fill Options

  1. Right-click a slide and choose Edit Slide.
  2. Select your text element.
  3. Click where it says Text Color.

This opens a menu with several fill options that go beyond a standard color picker.

Text Fill Options

Color

This is the standard fill you've always had — pick a solid color, and that color fills your text.

Gradient

This lets you blend between two colors across the text. It's useful when you want a subtle depth effect rather than a flat fill.

Text Cut Out

Text Cut Out removes the fill from inside the text entirely. What's left is just the shape of the letters, and whatever is on the background shows through them.

  • If your background is a white slide, the text will appear white, but it is actually transparent, revealing the background behind it.
  • This is great for high-impact title moments.

Practical example: Set your slide background to white and apply Text Cut Out to large text (like a name or a single word). Duplicate the slide and invert it so the white background becomes dark and the dark text becomes light. Alternate between the two slides to create a bold, punchy emphasis effect that works especially well on LED walls.

Media Fill

Media Fill lets you select a video or image file and use it as the fill source for your text. Instead of the text being a solid color, it plays a video contained within the shape of the letters themselves.

For this to read well on screen, use media with strong contrast and bright colors. Subtle footage can get lost, especially at a distance.

Enhancing Media Fill with the Inspector

Once you've selected Media Fill, you can use the Inspector to further customize the look:

  • Filters and Effects: Apply filters and effects to your media to customize its appearance.
  • Color Invert: Flips the colors of the media inside the text, creating a negative-style look.
  • Background Blur: Blurs the background layers behind the text. This adds two additional controls:
    • Saturation: Pulling saturation down desaturates the fill toward black and white; pushing it up makes the colors more vivid.
    • Blur Amount: Controls how sharp or soft the fill appears, from crisp and clear to fully blurred.

These effects can be combined however you'd like, and mixing them with the background effects introduced in recent versions of ProPresenter opens up a lot of creative options.

When to Use Text Fill Effects

Text fill effects aren't something you'll necessarily use every week, but for special moments — like Christmas, Easter, or any service where you want to put strong visual emphasis on a word or a name — they give you a polished, broadcast-quality look without leaving ProPresenter.
