What is AirCast?
The AirCast Receiver allows ProPresenter to receive audio or video streamed wirelessly from supported Apple devices (such as an iPhone or iPad) over your local network, without the need for cables, adapters, or third-party software. Once configured, AirCast appears just like any other input inside ProPresenter, meaning it can be used in a slide, assigned through a Look, or triggered using a slide action or macro.
Setting Up the AirCast Receiver
- Open ProPresenter Settings and navigate to the Inputs tab.
- Click Add AirCast Receiver.
- The first time you do this, ProPresenter will prompt you to install a plug-in. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. This only needs to be done once.
- Once the plug-in is installed, the AirCast Receiver will be available for configuration.
Naming Your AirCast Receiver
There are two names to configure:
- Internal Name - the name ProPresenter uses to identify the input within the application.
- AirCast Display Name - the name that appears on Apple devices when they search for an AirPlay destination.
It's recommended to make both names clear and easy to recognize so your team knows which destination to choose.
Securing the Connection
You can secure the AirCast connection with a password by enabling the AirCast Password option and entering the password you want to require. This is helpful in shared environments where you only want authorized devices connecting to your ProPresenter system.
Audio Source Configuration
You can choose to use the audio embedded in the AirCast stream itself, or select a different audio source available on your network. Choose whichever option best matches your audio routing setup. If setting up AirCast for audio only, the process is very similar.
Practical Uses
- Live annotation: A presenter can draw, highlight, or mark up content in real time from an iPad and send it wirelessly into ProPresenter.
- Remote guest via FaceTime: Stream a FaceTime call directly from an iPhone into ProPresenter as an input, instead of routing through a laptop or extra hardware.
Using AirCast as an Input
Once configured, AirCast works within the same input workflow already used in ProPresenter. You can assign it to a screen using Looks, place it into a slide using a video input object, or trigger it from a cue or macro.
Limitations
- AirCast only supports devices that use AirPlay. It does not support Google Cast, Android screen sharing, or other non-Apple wireless protocols.
- Some services such as YouTube, Spotify, and other DRM (digital rights management) protected platforms may not work through the AirCast Receiver. Screen mirroring may be a better option for this content.
- ProPresenter only supports one AirCast Receiver instance at a time. You cannot use one AirCast input for video and a second AirCast input for audio simultaneously (for example, receiving video from a pastor's iPad while also using a separate AirCast connection for a pre-service audio playlist).
