How to Downgrade from ProPresenter v22

ProPresenter 22 introduced major changes under the hood to support features like ProPresenter Cloud. Because of those changes, going back to ProPresenter 21.4 takes more effort than downgrading between earlier versions.

If you’re here because an upgrade to ProPresenter 22 failed, skip ahead to Step 1. Your 21.4 data is safe, and the steps below will get you back to it.

If you’re considering a downgrade for another reason, please read the trade-offs below first.

Before You Downgrade

We recommend staying on ProPresenter 22 when possible. Downgrading is a multi-step process, and it comes with a few trade-offs:

  • Cloud workspaces require ProPresenter 22 or later. Once you downgrade, your workspaces will no longer sync with Cloud or with other computers. Your organization's Cloud workspace is not affected. It stays in the Cloud, and other computers on version 22 keep using it. You can rejoin it later if you upgrade again.
  • Changes made in ProPresenter 22 won’t appear in 21.4. When you open 21.4, you’ll see your workspace exactly as it was the last time you used 21.4.
  • Changes made in 21.4 won't carry over automatically. If you later upgrade to 22 again, you'll need to import your workspace again to bring those changes forward.
  • Newer features won't be available. Anything added in version 22 or later won't work in 21.4.
  • Want to keep changes you made in 22? Before you start, export your workspace from ProPresenter 22. After downgrading, import it as a legacy workspace in 21.4.
    • Export (in 22): Choose File → Export → Legacy Workspace, then pick a folder to save it to.
    • Import (in 21.4): Go to ProPresenter → Settings → General and open the Workspace Manager. Click the + icon, choose Import Legacy ProPresenter Folder, and select the folder you exported.

If you're considering a downgrade because of a problem in ProPresenter 22, please contact Support first. In many cases we can help resolve the issue without you needing to go back.

If you still need to downgrade, follow the steps below in order.

Step 1: Remove ProPresenter 22's Helper Processes

ProPresenter 21.4 won't replace the newer helper processes installed by version 22, so you need to remove them before installing 21.4.

Mac

  1. Quit ProPresenter.
  2. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder…
  3. Paste the following path and press Return:
   ~/Library/Application Support/RenewedVision/ProPresenter/Helpers/
  1. Drag the Workspaces folder to the Trash.
    • This folder holds a background component, not your presentations or media. Your content is not stored here.
  2. Open Activity Monitor (in Applications → Utilities).
  3. Search for ProPresenter, select all matching processes, then choose View → Quit Process.

Windows

  1. Quit ProPresenter.
  2. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  3. Find ProPresenter and select Uninstall.
    • Uninstalling ProPresenter does not remove your workspaces, presentations, or media.

Uninstalling stops the helper process, removes it, and clears its startup entry.

Step 2: Install and Launch ProPresenter 21.4

  1. Download ProPresenter 21.4 for macOS/Windows.
  2. Install it, then open it.

ProPresenter 21.4 opens to the workspace that was active the last time you used 21.4, with all of its data exactly as you left it.

Upgrading to ProPresenter 22 Again

If you decide to upgrade to ProPresenter 22 or later again, any changes you made in 21.4 won’t appear automatically. You’ll need to import your workspace again in ProPresenter 22 to bring those changes forward.
